Kaiser Chair Energy Security Talk Series Sponsored by IEEE PELS: Grid Modernization – Paving the path for the future
April 24 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
A grid modernization journey may be wide-scoped or narrow, fast-paced or gradual with incremental changes — but as with any journey, it is important to have a vision for where are you going and what your targets are. Without some kind of vision, even a blurry one, how will you know when you have arrived at your destination? Grid modernization is not a project that has a beginning date and finish date. It is an overarching vision of the future that is implemented in increments, through multiple well-defined projects. The projects are your building blocks, your bricks along the path and you have to align them some in parallel, some interdependent and some independent. To be successful, grid modernization must challenge – and most likely will – change how you plan, design, engineer, operate and maintain your system. It must be agile and flexible – which is a new idea for many utilities, and may feel like a risk Speaker(s): D.
