The IEEE Power & Energy Society embraces planning, research, development, design, application, construction, installation and operation of apparatus, equipment, structures, materials and systems for the safe, reliable and economic generation, transmission, distribution, conversion, measurement and control of electric energy. It includes the developing of engineering standards, the providing of information and instruction to the public and to legislators, as well as technical scientific, literary, educational and other activities that contribute to the electric power discipline or utilize the techniques or products within this discipline. The IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society seeks to promote the study of dielectric phenomena and behavior, and the development and characterization of the dielectric, chemical, mechanical and environmental properties of all vacuum, gaseous, liquid and solid electrical insulation, and with utilization of these materials in circuits and systems under conditions of use.

Achievements: The Vancouver PES Chapter has been honoured for high performance by the Society’s High Performance Chapter Program for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, 2014 and 2015. The program and award is to allow chapters that meet the criteria of a high performing chapter to help defray the future costs of its operation, including having a minimum number of activities, a website, and meeting various reporting requirements associated with the activities. The Vancouver PES Chapter was awarded the second place in the membership contest for large PES chapters (increase in membership of 17% in 2013).

The technical presentations are provided by the experts from industry, academia and IEEE Distinguished Lecturers. The PES chapter events provide a forum for networking among Electrical Engineering professionals working in various industries.
