IEEE Thompson Okanagan Section is Created

On Nov. 23, 2024 the IEEE MGA Board of Directors approved the elevation of the Okanagan Subsection to create the IEEE Thompson Okanagan Section.

The new Section will serve IEEE members in the Thompson Okanagan region of the B.C. mainland.

The Thompson Okanagan Section will promote the exchange of technical information and awareness of the local engineering community by:

  • Hosting technical presentations and seminars on topics of current interest
  • Organizing tours of local companies, research labs, and industrial sites
  • Arranging for local support and participation in engineering conferences and symposia held in the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia.

The Okanagan Subsection was initially established as a subsection of the Vancouver IEEE Section on February 13, 2010. The Okanagan Subsection encompasses the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia to provide IEEE members with local meetings and other services.

The IEEE Thompson Okanagan Section boundaries are defined as: pin codes V0B, V0E, V0G, V0H, V0K, V0X, V1A, V1B, V1E, V1K, V1L, V1N, V1P, V1R, V1S, V1T, V1W, V1X, V1Y, V1Z, V2A, V2B, V2C, V2E, V2V, V4T, and V4V. This means members residing within the designated postal codes will be members of the new Section. Members who are residents of the B.C. mainland, but not residing in the designated postal codes will remain members of the Vancouver Section.

The new IEEE Thompson Okanagan Section is in the process of organizing, setting up administrative procedures and holding an initial Section election. The Interim Chair of the IEEE Thompson Okanagan Section is Dr. Youry Khmelevsky (email: Youry at IEEE.org)
