UBC Engineering Design Team (EDT) Competition
IEEE UBC Engineering Design Team (EDT) Competition The IEEE UBC Student Branch, in collaboration with UBC Sailbot, is proud to host the Engineering Design Team (EDT) Competition, an 8-hour high-intensity design challenge bringing together some of UBC’s most technically driven students. The EDT Competition challenges participants to develop innovative solutions around the theme “A Better Tomorrow.” Students will work in teams across three design tracks: – Software Track algorithm development, AI, and system design – Mechanical Track CAD and mechanical system design – Electrical Track circuit design and ECAD Participants will collaborate under time pressure to design, and present engineering solutions, which will be evaluated by judges from industry and academia. This event attracts highly motivated engineering students, many of whom are active members of UBC’s engineering design teams and upper-year technical programs. Event Details Date: March 21, 2026 Duration: 8-hour design competition Location: UBC Engineering Student Centre (ESC) Registration: (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2P8uoIdfmEoIczmvEpR8UgAPsfzyg1yg9jo-2pOn-wwkaDg/viewform?usp=header) Why Attend The EDT Competition provides students the opportunity to: – Apply engineering knowledge to real-world problems – Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams – Gain hands-on experience in design thinking and rapid prototyping – Network with industry professionals and mentors Sponsorship & Industry Engagement We welcome industry partners and sponsors interested in supporting student innovation and engaging with UBC’s engineering community. Sponsors will have the opportunity to: – Connect with talented engineering students – Showcase their brand to a technically engaged audience – Support innovation and student-led engineering initiatives If your organization is interested in sponsoring the EDT Competition or participating as a judge or mentor, please contact the IEEE UBC Student Branch at chair@ubcieee.org Bldg: ESC, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
