The Royal Canadian Navy invites both IEEE student and graduate student members in Vancouver Section to participate in the Canadian Students at Sea program from 9-10 May 2023. On Tuesday, 9 May, participants will sail aboard the Canadian patrol frigate HMCS Ottawa from Burrard Dry Dock Pier in North Vancouver to HMC Dockyard at CFB Esquimalt near Victoria. While underway, participants will have opportunities to see a modern warship in action, and view spaces such as the bridge, operations room,, and various engineering spaces. On Wednesday, 10 May, participants will tour shore facilities at CFB Esquimalt, including the Fleet Maintenance Facility, before heading back to Vancouver via BC Ferries. Those who have been (or would like to be) co-op students at local firms like Seaspan, OSI Maritime, MDA, Vard, and other Navy contractors, or plan to seek permanent employment in the marine sector, will find the experience to be particularly useful. Participants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The number of billets is limited, so please submit your applications to Prof. Michelson as soon as possible.
