Human-Aware Teleoperation and Control for Interactive Robots
[] Join the IEEE Toronto Instrumentation & Measurement – Robotics & Automation Joint Chapter for a technical talk presented by Dr. Yue Hu from the University of Waterloo. Thursday, August 6, 2026 @ 2:00 – 3:00 PM (EST) Abstract: As robots increasingly operate in human-centered environments, teleoperation and shared-control systems must move beyond pure motion execution toward interaction-aware and human-aware autonomy. This talk presents recent work from the Active & Interactive Robotics Lab (AIRLab) at the University of Waterloo on robot teleoperation and physical human–robot interaction (pHRI), with emphasis on human-centered teleoperation frameworks that integrate control, operator intent, and user-aware adaptation to improve interaction quality and task performance in collaborative robotic systems. Topics include shared autonomy, teleoperation interfaces, and the incorporation of human state into the control loop to support safer, more intuitive, and more effective interaction.
