Vancouver IEEE Day: Security, Ethics, & Standards in the IEEE

In celebration of IEEE Day, the Vancouver Section has organized a few short talks related to security, ethics, and standards affecting the IEEE. Privacy Issues Associated with Connected Vehicles – Prof. David Michelson Bio: Prof. David Michelson leads the AURORA Connected Vehicle Test Bed at the University of British Columbia where his research focuses on connected vehicle information architecture and the role of 5G technology, including emerging millimetre-wave and satellite communications capabilities, in enabling ITS applications. Why Cybersecurity Matters to Everyone – Dr. Mandeep Pannu Bio: Dr. Mandeep Pannu has MSc and PhD in Computer Science from Coventry University, UK. Currently, she is working as a Lecturer at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Fraser Valley. Previously, she worked as a lecturer at Coventry University. She has been involved in Teaching and Research in Higher Education for over ten years. Her main research interests are in the area of Computer Vision, IoT, Cyber Security, and Digital forensics. Putting a STAND in STANDARDS – Ken Bell Bio: Ken studied under the finest professors at UBC and graduated EE in 1980. He first became interested in Affective Computing in 2006, when it was still a fringe concept. He is currently the Secretary of IEEE WG P7008 (Ethics of Digital Nudges), the editorial resource for IEEE WG P7014 (Ethics of Empathic Systems), and the WG1/3 Vice Chair of OCEANIS, the worldwide consortium of national standards bodies concerned with ethics.
