IEEE Nuclear Presentation Series – Canadian Journey on Nuclear Energy – from CANDU to Small Modular Reactors
April 23 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
The IEEE Vancouver Section and the IEEE Future Directions Committee are organizing a series of presentations to address the widespread interest in clean energy sources, new nuclear reactor technologies, and the various related issues. This series of talks will cover aspects of nuclear energy and the disruptive new technology of Small Modular Reactors. These presentations will be of interest both to engineers who are not nuclear specialists, and to the general public who are interested in learning about the technology. TOPIC: Canadian Journey on Nuclear Energy – from CANDU to Small Modular Reactors DATE: April 23, 2025 LOCATION: Online PRESENTER: Dr. Jing Jiang, University of Western Ontario Professor Jing Jiang will discuss development of nuclear power industries in Canada, and journey through various stages of development until the present day of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The presentation will include a discussion of various types of SMR and Advanced Nuclear Reactors (ANRs) technologies, their development and deployment stages, and potential advantages and challenges.
