IEEE Presentation Series on Nuclear Energy and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)

IEEE Presentation Series on Nuclear Energy and Small Modular Reactors

The IEEE Vancouver Section is organizing a series of presentations to address the widespread interest in clean energy sources, new nuclear reactor technologies, and the various related issues.

This presentation series will be of interest to the engineering community, energy providers, governments and regulators, nuclear reactor manufacturers,  and other design engineering firms seeking to develop applications for these new energy sources.

Members of the technical community and the public at large will  learn about the characteristics of the new emerging nuclear technologies from experts in the nuclear and energy domains.

The series will address:

  • comparison of nuclear energy technologies to other clean energy technologies
  • characteristics of new nuclear reactor designs, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
  • energy capacity (current, forecast, and shortfall)
  • cost of manufacture and incremental energy production costs
  • fuel sources and supply chain
  • waste and environmental impact
  • current technical standards and regulatory status
  • current investments by energy providers,
  • progress and status of current pilot projects and upcoming projects / plans
  • nuclear manufacturers
  • special applications of Small Modular Reactors

This series is in progress and individual events will continue to be added.

Where possible each presentation will include panel discussions to bring forth the views of a variety of experts and viewpoints.  In addition the presentations will provide an opportunity for questions and interactive discussions involving panelists and our attendees.

We look forward to bringing together a broad audience from various constituencies, holding differing viewpoint and perspectives.   As we work to provide information and inform the general public, we hope to bring issues up for discussion and to make progress toward a broad consensus regarding clean energy and nuclear technology.

We are interested in extending invitations to various audiences and stakeholders and gaining their active participation.  This series of presentations and any follow up meetings or symposia will not be biased or reflect the interests and concerns of only one interest group.  It will be consistent with the IEEE’s mission to promote and encourage technology for humanity.
