IEEE Day 2022 Celebration in Vancouver

The IEEE Vancouver Section celebrated IEEE Day on October 4th, 2022 at the Creekside Community Centre in Vancouver.  The executives of the section were excited to hold the IEEE Day event in person once again after 2 years of holding the event online.

Approximately 40 members and friends of the Section came together to socialize, and take in the program.

Dr. Guillaume Boisset, Director of Manufacturing at Sierra Wireless, and a former Chair of the Vancouver Section, provided an engaging keynote speech. His topic, “Internet of things; use cases and key issues” offered an inside look at developments in industrial wireless applications. The talk covered considerations including the selection of radio communication technologies such as Cellular, Bluetooth, and LoRaWAN, as well as impediments to wireless communications in industrial applications.

The event was generously sponsored by Destination Vancouver. Morgan Da Rocha represented Destination Vancouver and shared a message about how Destination Vancouver can support conference organizers and help conferences that are considering coming to Vancouver. He also shared a brand new video produced to highlight IEEE Vancouver Section and Vancouver as ideal partners for the conferences that the Section wishes to attract/support.

As in past years IEEE Day celebrations, attendees gathered for a photo at the IEEE Vancouver Section Centennial Monument outside Vancouver’s iconic Science World.  The monument is located only a few minutes away on foot from the Creekside Community Centre.
