This lecture addresses General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) products marketed as ’empathic partners,’ ‘personal AI,’ ‘co-pilots,’ ‘assistants,’ and similar terms for ‘human-AI partnering.’ It focuses on the risks and opportunities of empathic human-AI partnerships, explores what new governance (if any) is required, and discusses the role that soft law standards may play in supporting hard law. Andrew McStay is Professor of Technology & Society at Bangor University, UK. Director of The Emotional AI Lab, his current work focuses on addressing use of emulated empathy in general-purpose artificial intelligence systems for human-AI partnerships. |
Vancouver TALK 26: Data Mining and Machine Learning for Analysis of Network TrafficLjiljana Trajkovic Organizer:
In this talk, the speaker will discuss how data from communication networks is collected and analyzed during anomalies such as worms and ransomware attacks, using modern machine learning techniques to identify and evaluate these issues. Ljiljana Trajkovic is a professor at Simon Fraser University with a focus on communication networks and dynamical systems. She has held various prestigious roles within IEEE, including President of two societies and Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, and is recognized as an IEEE Fellow. |
Solving the Multi-Agent Herding Control Problem: Theory and ApplicationsMario di Bernardo Joint Sponsors:
This talk primarily addresses the study of herding behavior in complex multi-agent systems, detailing efforts to tackle the herding control problem without relying on typical simplifications. It Mario di Bernardo is a Professor at the University of Naples Federico II and a Visiting Professor at the University of Bristol, specializing in Automatic Control and Nonlinear Systems. He has been recognized as an IEEE Fellow for his work, serves on the IEEE Control Systems Society’s Board of Governors, and was awarded the title of Cavaliere for scientific merits by the President of Italy. |
