New IEEE Journal

IEEE Data Descriptions is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes short articles on all aspects of data: data descriptors, data collections, and metadata. Its overarching purpose is to promote publicly available datasets (open access or subscription-based access) in support of reproducible science while at the same time bringing insights into the associated dataset, data collection methods, and data quality. The metadata collected provides enhanced dataset discoverability and creates a foundation for future data science tools such as auto-discovery and mashups.

Designing a Standard to Minimise Misuse of Technology for Coercive-Control

Henry Nash, P2987 Standard Working Group

Organizer:
Joint Management Chapter

Tuesday, June 11, 10:00 am – 11:00 am, Online.

It is an uncomfortable truth for designers and operators of technology that it is increasingly being used by perpetrators of interpersonal coercive-control, for example in cases such as domestic abuse. Moreover, this use of technology does not typically involve hacking in the traditional sense, rather the misuse of often well-intentioned standard features – the design of which usually did not include threat analysis of, for instance, an abusive domestic partner who has access to passwords or manages the device/application in question.

Metamaterials and meta components are the future of photonics: how PlanOpSim and
SONIL can help

Organizer:
Joint Communications Chapter

Thursday, June 13, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Online.

PlanOpSim and
SONIL can help you design the components and systems of the future, which will be more compact, less complicated and with new optical functionalities. PlanOpSim offers the fastest, most complete and most advanced simulation and design software for photonic meta-components. It takes into account manufacturing constraints and dispersions to provide the optimized design in
term of performance and production cost.
