Annual General Meeting & Gala set for March 25th – save the date!

The Vancouver Section announces the date of its Annual General Meeting and Gala, set for March 25th. The AGM & Gala event is open to members, friends of the Section, and their guests. The event returns to an in-person format after several years of online meetings.  It will be held at the Element Vancouver Metrotown Hotel, Burnaby.

Student Poster Competition is now open

Attention all students! We are excited to announce the 2023 edition of our “Student Poster Competition” which will be held in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the IEEE Vancouver Section on March 25th. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your technical skills, research skills, and creativity to the broader engineering community, and have a chance to win one of the cash prizes totalling $2,000!

2023 Engineers and Geoscientists BC Awards now open

Nominations for the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Awards—the top awards for professional engineers and professional geoscientists in the province—are now open. The awards recognize exemplary professional, technical, and volunteer contributions made by Engineers and Geoscientists BC registrants towards public safety and well-being.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is accepting applications for these awards until April 7, 2023, at 5:00 PM. There are several award categories to choose from including the Young Professional Award, the Innovation in Sustainability Award, and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award. Check out the Engineers and Geoscientists BC website for a full list of award categories, nomination procedures, and eligibility.

In Canada, Rural Electrification Associations (REAs) are unique to Alberta. They provide power for consumers in rural communities each within a specific geographic boundary. Each REA has an elected board of directors that handles the business operations of the REA.

Glen Fox is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Equs Rural Electrification Association (Equs REA).  He has been involved with this REA since 2014.

Distinguished Lecture – Dual Particle (Neutron and Gamma) Imaging

The Dual-Particle Imager (DPI) is an instrument based on scintillation detectors (liquid organic and sodium iodide) that has been proposed as a device capable of detecting, localizing, and characterizing SNM. The DPI is sensitive to fast neutrons and gamma rays, with the ability to separately reconstruct images and emitted energy spectra for both particle types.

Professor Sara Pozzi earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in nuclear engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy in 1997 and 2001, respectively. She is a Professor in the Department of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences at the University of Michigan where she established and is the leader of the Detection for Nuclear Nonproliferation Group (DNNG).
