IEEE Milestone: The Trans Canada Microwave System (1958)The IEEE History Committee has recently approved an IEEE Milestone for the achievement of the Trans Canada Microwave System (1958). The Vancouver Section joined several other Sections in proposing and supporting this IEEE Milestone, which will be commemorated on July 1 with the installation of a permanent plaque. This milestone will also be commemorated in several other cities across Canada, in acknowledgement of the economic and social enrichment brought about by the groundbreaking national network which went live on July 1, 1958. Dave Michelson is the head of this project and will be organizing the events for the day of July 1, 2022. Attendees are encouraged to stay tuned for an announcement of the event as the day approaches. |

Side Channel Analysis: A New Perspective for Vehicle Intrusion Detection SystemDr. Jiajia Liu Organizer: Vehicular Technology Society Tuesday, April 12th, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Online Intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) have become the mainstream in the development of the automobile industry. Many emerging technologies have been proposed to provide users with a comfortable and convenient driving experience. Jiajia Liu is a full professor (Vice Dean) with the School of Cybersecurity, Northwestern Polytechnical University. He is the director of Shaanxi Provincial Engineering Laboratory of Cyber Security since 2021, and the director of Xi’an Unmanned System Security and Intelligent Communications ISTC Center since 2020. He was a Full Professor at the School of Cyber Engineering, Xidian University, from 2013 to 2018. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in many high-quality publications, including prestigious IEEE journals and conferences. |
Synthetic Aperture Radar for Oil Spill ObservationDistinguished Lecture by Dr. Maurizio Migliaccio Organizer: Oceanic Engineering Chapter Saturday, April 23rd, 9:00 am. Save the date, the details are to be defined. Marine oil pollution monitoring is a topic of great applicative and scientific relevance. The use of remotely sensed measurements is of special interest and, in particular, the SAR because of its almost all-weather and all-day imaging capability at fine spatial resolution is the most effective tool. Conventional single-polarization SAR oil spill monitoring techniques are limited in their capability to detect oil slicks since they strongly rely on suitable thresholds, training samples, and ancillary information. Maurizio Migliaccio (M’91-SM’00-F’17) is a Full Professor of Electromagnetics at Università di Napoli Parthenope (Italy) and was an Affiliated Full Professor at NOVA Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL (USA). He has been teaching Microwave Remote Sensing since 1994. |
