Embedded Software Engineer

IKOMED Technologies Inc, a medical device company located in Vancouver, BC, is looking for a talented and self-driven Embedded Software Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary project team as a full-time employee in the development of our ATMOS device for the treatment of emphysema.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Software development

Participate in the full software development life cycle for a complex medical device
Provide software support for R&D infrastructure including jigs and fixtures
Create computational infrastructure for data management and analysis

Algorithm development

Participate in the development of metrics for device performance and algorithms for device control
Participate in the research and development of medical image processing algorithms for thermal measurements
Design and conduct bench-testing experiments for algorithm validation and optimization
Support integration of the algorithms and thermal imaging hardware with the system

Kwantlen Polytechnic University – Computer Science and Information Technology Instructors – Melville School of Business

The Melville School of Business is seeking several qualified Computer Science and Information Technology [CSIT] faculty members. The successful candidates will be required to teach courses in support of the Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology Degree and the Computer Information Systems Certificate and Diploma. IEEE Day 2022 Celebration in Vancouver

The IEEE Vancouver Section celebrated IEEE Day on October 4th, 2022 at Creekside Community Centre in Vancouver. The executives of the section were excited to hold the local IEEE Day event in person once again, after 2 years of holding the event online. Approximately 40 members and friends of the Section came together to socialize and hear the keynote speech given by past Section Chair Dr. Guillaume Boisset, Director of Manufacturing at Sierra Wireless.

Trans-Canada Microwave System IEEE Milestone Dedication

The IEEE Vancouver Section held a dedication ceremony for the IEEE Milestone of the Trans-Canada Microwave System on Canada Day. The plaques are mounted at the TELUS Headquarters in Vancouver. TELUS CTO Ibrahim Gedeon joined Section Chair Matthew Wilder to dedicate the IEEE Milestone. They were joined by Mike Paraskake, a long-time member and volunteer in the section whose career at BC Tel and TELUS included working directly with the microwave system. Dave Michelson, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC, leads the IEEE Canada History Committee and coordinated the application for this historic milestone which required the cooperation of multiple sections across Canada.

Invited Talk: Fabrication, Actuation, and Control of Sensor-Equipped Microrobots

Friday, November 11, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, Online.

This talk will review some of the recent advances in the field of micro-robotics for biomedical applications. Dr. Ansari will present her group’s recent efforts on the fabrication, actuation and 2D/3D control of vibration-driven and magnetically-powered microrobots for surgical and drug delivery applications. Furthermore, she will present some of the recent results on the application of micro-swimming robots equipped with MEMS sensors for underwater exploration of the icy moons of the planet.

Dr. Azadeh Ansari is an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. Her research focuses on Radio Frequency MEMS resonant systems and micro-robotics. She earned her M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2013 and 2016 respectively. Before joining the ECE faculty at Georgia Tech, she was a postdoctoral scholar in the Physics Department at Caltech.

Vancouver Talk 11: 40 years at SPAR

SPAR Aerospace was the Canadian company that produced equipment for the Canadian Space Agency as part of the NASA Space Shuttle missions. It is most famous for developing the Canadarm (Shuttle Remote Manipulator System) and Canadarm2 is still used on the International Space Station. Lorne Keyes will be reminiscing on 40 years at SPAR.
